It's Kangaroo month!

Conversation with wine
|
This month is "Kangaroo month" for me. I spent 2 different business weekends in the Hunter Valley (wine country, 3 hours drive north of Sydney), and I have never seen so many kangaroos just hanging out in the real world before. I think the fact that both places I stayed were next to golf courses with tender green grass constantly watered may have had something to do with it... So there's a couple of cool pix of them in this ezine.
The coolest quote of this month has got to be from Chris Jordan "Martin Luther King Jr. didn't change the world by saying, 'I have a complaint". I've mentioned Chris Jordan's photography before: he creates composite photos of things like a million toothpicks or thousands of mobile phones - to give people an understanding of the weight and breadth of the junk they throw away.
If you are interested in my January 08 public NLP workshop (subtitled Mind reading, influencing and questioning) do let me know. It's restricted to smart decision-makers and influencers, and we already have a few enrolments. Check out our special 2 for 1 +100 ezine offer.

Self-publishing
Perhaps you've got a book just waiting to get out there. If you're considering self-publishing, check out this guide from Bookpal, a Queensland based printer.
Just in case
The drama for me this month is losing a few week's of emails after a PC meltdown (I backed up everything except my Outlook.pst file). Everything else is fine (I have 2 HDD back ups)
So I read with a laugh this Fast Company blog post about the fear of losing everything. They link to articles in the Wall Street Journal and some online back up solutions (just remember your .pst file!). They say it costs less than $1USD per day, and will selectively back up only the files which have changed. |

Someone's googling you
I recently became part of the Facebook community. I was stunned at the amount of personal information people divulge about themselves.
Now one of my clients tells me they check people out on Facebook when they apply for jobs.
Facebook do a very good job of keeping people logging in (as a business model for keeping in touch with your clients, it's unparalleled), and it's definitely more fun that than Linked in or Plaxo, I can assure you!
When I read this ChangeThis manifesto on building your personal brand it confirmed what I was thinking. It contends that you need an online presence (even if you've got a 'real" job); and helps you calculate whether you're digitally disastrous or digitally distinct. Thankfully it suggests ways you can 'squat' on other people's pages (you don't necessarily need your own).
They even suggest that because we all Google people we meet, we know or want to hire, this may change how we name our kids (too many John Smiths can mean they can't see your wonderful work over that of the serial killer with the same name!).

Click to Give
I've often received in my email the pink ribbon to go donate a click to breast cancer, and today I received this one which is for animal rescue, with tabs to breast cancer, hunger, child health, literacy, rainforests and animal rescue.
The idea is that when you click you may want to buy something from an advertiser (or the advertiser gets brand awareness from being on the site). Why not bookmark it and click for each every day? They even have a reminder service so you can just get their email and click on the link to give... couldn't make it easier, could they, to do a good deed from your desk?
How are you making it easy for people to buy from you, get help from you, give you their hard earned time and money?
Mean it graphically
I have had great fun between busy-ness, checking out this online graphical dictionary it gives meaning-based word networks. I put in "consult" and got a lovely graphic depiction including words like confabulate and schmooze. Or just hit "random" and see what it builds before your very eyes. Not sure what to use it for besides expanding your vocabulary, but I do love playing with it!

Picasso lives!
Just for fun, go check out Picasso's official web site. biographical information, photos of his famous works (and of him), where exhibitions of his work are on around the world, all you need to know about him, his work, his philosophy and his impact on art and culture. Beautiful site, too!
Come sing in parts
I was pleased and surprised that some of my ezine subscribers were part of a choir I joined this year. The Glory Bound Groove Train sing (non-denominational) gospel in Petersham in Sydney on Monday nights. if you're thinking that expressing yourself in many-parted harmony is your kind of fun, then think about joining us.
My exhibition - a note for your Sydney Diary
I'm having my next art exhibition at the Workshop Arts Centre in Willoughby on Saturday afternoon, February 9th 2008. Keep the date in your diary - more info to follow!
And impro, of course
Scared Scriptless' Theatresports® continues at the Clarence Hotel, Petersham (in Sydney) every Friday night till Christmas. Doors open 7:30, show starts at 8. Drinks at pub prices, food available. There's a second show (The Late Show) at 10:30, so catch them both for an unheard of $5 whenever you're near Petersham in Sydney (Australia, of course!).
And the Cranston Cup 2007 - Sydney's yearly Theatresports® Improvisation "holy grail" is on at the moment. Come see me co-host/timekeep on 25 November 2007. The Cup is 18 and 25 November at Belvoir Street Theatre. And the Grand Final is at the Enmore Theatre on December 2 2007.
